TO FOLLOWUP MY EMAIL OF SATURDAY CONCERNING THE CLIP FROM THE GLENN BECK SHOW ABOUT THE

PRIVACY AGREEMENT AT CARS.gov THAT ALLOWED TAPPING INTO PRIVATE PC’s-( Particularly for those who might
have assumed this was crazy talk from a crazy man and my reaction a bit overwrought):
On Monday following Fridays broadcast, Beck queried the WH about the agreement. Within a few hours DOT issued the
following statement:
” A SECURITY WARNING ON THE CARS.gov DEALER SUPPORT PAGE THAT STATED THAT COMPUTERS LOGGED
INTO THE SYSTEM WERE CONSIDERED PROPERTY OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN REMOVED. WE
ARE WORKING TO REVISE THE LANGUAGE. THE LANGUAGE WAS POSTED ON THE PORTION OF THE WEB SITE
ACCESSIBLE BY CAR DEALERS AND NOT THE GENERAL PUBLIC”
 Frankly, this statement raises more questions than it answered- particularly how this could happen; who was responsible;
how such a provision could have been cleared by OMB, as it must be by law; whether similar provisions exist on other
government sites; and on and on.
What is most disturbing to me was the total void that the story fell into. With the exception of the posting of the clip on Real
Clear Politics- where I stumbled across it- there was no mention in any major newspaper or on any major network news
program. ( However, some number of Democratic or liberal blogs apparently assailed the story as “conspiracy craziness”
and Beck as a nut case or even tried to defend the matter.)
Contrast this behavior to the firestorm created by the Bush Administration’s “warrant less wiretaps”.
Where were the ACLU, the NYT, and the voices of my fellow civil libertarians?
Lastly, I am most distressed by this:

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO US? HAVE WE REACHED THE POINT WHERE OUR PARTISAN PERSUASION
TRUMPS OUR IDENTITY AS AMERICANS? ARE OUR PRINCIPLES TO BE SACRIFICED ON THE ALTAR OF POLITICS?
IS CONSCIENCE MERELY TO BE SHREDDED TO THE CONVENIENCES OF IDEOLOGY?
SOME MAY CONTEND THAT THIS IS MERELY A TRIFLING INCIDENT. IF SO, IT RISKS BEING JUST ANOTHER
SMALL EPISODE PAVING AMERICA’S ROAD TO HELL.

How would I place a link of your web site to my web site? Both parties are scaring me, we are in new territory the way I see it. A loosely related story, I am in college at Eastern Kentucky University. I had a very liberal Professor that I really enjoyed and felt a certain kinship; though I am conservative. The other day, a fellow student confessed that she was conservative and a republican. She said that I speak of that particular professor so glowingly, but did I know he was so liberal? I laughed, “yes I know. I like him anyway.”

    Sincerely,

    Lisa Tyler
