JON HUNTSMAN super PAC seeks filing delay – POLITICO

Our Destiny PAC, a multimillion-dollar super PAC supporting Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman, may get to keep its donors secret for another few weeks.
The super PAC informed the Federal Election Commission in a one-line memorandum that “this committee is changing its filing frequency from quarterly to monthly.” The FEC has not yet acknowledged or approved the request.
The practical effect of such a change is that Our Destiny PAC, which has spent more than $1.86 million independently promoting Huntsman’s long-shot presidential campaign in New Hampshire ahead of the state’s Jan. 10 primary, would be able to avoid filing an otherwise mandatory, 12-day pre-primary campaign finance report. That report is supposed to be due on Thursday.
The report, if filed, would lay bare the PAC donors’ names and the amount of money they’ve contributed during its four-months in existence. Huntsman’s wealthy father has reportedly funded much of the super PAC’s operations.
“Our Destiny PAC changed its filing schedule to make filing easier as it gets involved in additional primaries (a practice encouraged by the FEC),” Our Destiny PAC counsel Ron Jacobs wrote POLITICO in an email.
Asked about its fundraising, Jacobs said: “Our Destiny has received a number of contributions from a variety of different individuals from around the country, to support Jon Huntsman.”
FEC spokeswoman Judith Ingram says the commission won’t discuss Our Destiny PAC’s specific situation, or that of any other political committee.
But in general, Ingram said, monthly filers who switch their filing status now would next submit a year-end campaign finance report covering the period from July 1 to Dec. 31. That report is due Jan. 31 – three weeks after the New Hampshire primary.
