MADISON, Wis. – After months of protests and petitions, Wisconsin voters will pick a Democratic candidate today to go up against Republican Gov. Scott Walker in next month’s recall election.
Four Democrats are competing in the open primary for the chance to face Walker in the June 5 election. If Walker loses, he would be only the third governor in U.S. history to be recalled from office.
“It’s put Wisconsin in the spotlight, and in my lifetime we’ve never been in that kind of spotlight,” said Joe Heim, a professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Voters will choose between Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, former Dane County executive Kathleen Falk, state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, D-Alma, and Secretary of State Doug La Follette.
